Bernstein at 100
Sunday, March 11th, 2018 at 7:00pm
A celebration of Leonard Bernstein, on the year of what would be his 100th birthday. Writing for small ensembles, symphony orchestras, Broadway, film and opera houses, this prolific artist projected a simple message of understanding and hope employing both complex and simple forms and styles – yet always sounding like “Bernstein.” Pieces will include selections from  On The Town, West Side Story, On the Waterfront, Mass, Candide, Chichester Psalms, and more!

About the Composer:
Composer, conductor, pianist, teacher, thinker, and adventurous spirit, Leonard Bernstein (1918–1990) transformed the way Americans and people everywhere hear and appreciate music. Bernstein’s successes as a composer ranged from the Broadway stage—West Side Story, On the Town, Wonderful Town, and Candide—to concert halls all over the world, where his orchestral and choral music continues to thrive.

Tosca
Saturday, May 12th, 2018 at 7:00pm
Famed singer Tosca and her artist lover Cavaradossi, conspire to conquer the malicious forces determined to wedge them apart. Moving through the shadows in Rome’s churches and castles, they plot to undo the wicked intentions of their nemesis, the lecherous police sergeant, Scarpia, in Puccini’s masterful love story, rich with captivating arias and orchestral drama.

Sung in Italian with English subtitles projected above the stage.

About the Composer
Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, born on December 22, 1858, started the operatic trend toward realism with his popular works, which are among the most often performed in opera history. But the fame and fortune that came with such successes as La Bohème, Madama Butterfly and Tosca were complicated by an often-troubled personal life. Puccini died of post-operative shock on November 29, 1924.
