Item Description

Mark your calendar for January 8, 2018 for a night at the opera!  Win two orchestra seats to the first night of The Metropolitan Opera's production of Cavalliera Rusticana & Pagliacci.

About Cavalliera Rusticana & Pagliacci

Pietro Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana ("Rustic Chivalry") and Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci ("The Players") are today Italian opera’s most famous double act. Cavalleria Rusticana was written first, and its hugely successful premiere in 1890 was doubtless an influence on Leoncavallo, whose Pagliacci in 1892 was a triumph. The two works, each undeniable masterpieces of the verismo tradition of realism, share dramatic concision, melodic richness and an obsession with violent jealousy.

At the Met Opera this season, Roberto Alagna takes on the leading tenor roles in both parts of the double bill. In Cavalleria Rusticana, Ekaterina Semenchuk and Eva-Maria Westbroek share the role of the woebegone Santuzza, with Aleksandra Kurzak as the hot-blooded Nedda in Pagliacci. Nicola Luisotti conducts Sir David McVicar’s production, which heightens the melo-dramaticaction of this timeless verismo pairing.
