Item Description
Enjoy a beautiful Redwork Embroidered Quilt showing hand embroidered and quilted blocks. It measures approximately 61 x73 inches. A central block has the letter "K" and is dated 1895. Each block displays a different design: flowers, birds, a horse shoe (for luck), and a long-eared (English) squirrel. (Embroidery designs were printed in Massachusetts, sometimes copying English designs) It may have been made for a young girl. The cotton batting is light and shows shifting between layers. Made around 1885-1900, the condition is excellent. The quilt is believed to have come originally from Northfield, VT. A sleeve for hanging is hand stitched to the back of the quilt.
