Item Description

Are you a fan of historic trains? Does rail travel make you whoozy with excitement? This is a rare opportunity to learn about how a locomotive works from the talented staff at the Danbury Railway Museum. At the end of your lesson, you will take the engineer's seat to drive the diesel locomotive along a piece of track within the museum's rail yard.  The lesson will take about an hour, and then you will have your chance to test what you've learned as you pilot the locomotive! The winning bidder can bring one guest.

Item Special Note

Contact the museum to schedule your visit. Please note, the engines will be shut down for the season at the end of December through March, when the snow has melted. Dates are subject to availability of crew and equipment. For 2 people-at least one of the guests must be over 18 years of age.

The Danbury Train Station...

Built in 1903 for the thriving New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, Danbury Station boasted adjacent railyard facilities including an engine house, a freight house, a round house and a turntable. Through the 1950's and into the 1960's, Danbury was an important station for the New Haven Railroad. Film buffs will find it interesting to learn that Alfred Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train was filmed in and near the station. But, the 1960's began a period of decline for the railroad and the station, and by the 1980's, the engine house had burned and it and the freight house were torn down.

The successful bidder will receive a written confirmation or certificate for the experience.

Certificate expires December 1, 2018.
