Diane Calabro, President of the Cheshire Historical Society, will make you a very special gingerbread house!
Diane Calabro has been making Gingerbread Houses for four decades, from simple Cape Cod style houses for Decorating Workshops to larger and more intricate houses. Ideal for the holidays, Diane is donating a Gingerbread House that is on a 20" x 20" base and will be about 18" tall. The finished item will be wrapped in plastic wrap and is the perfect gift, certainly a wonderful holiday centerpiece.
Fun Gingerbread Facts:
-The making of decorated gingerbread houses began in Germany in the early 1800.
-They were popularized by the Grimm Brother's Fairy Tale "Hansel and Gretel," in which two hungry children are caught feasting on an enormous gingerbread house.
-Nuremburg, Germany, became known as the "Gingerbread Capital of the World" as early as the 1600's for their employment of bakers to craft elaborate works of art from gingerbread.
-Elizabeth I of England often had gingerbread figurines made in the likeness of her important guests.
