Century House Restaurant stands on historic ground. The original house, the nucleus of the present Century House, formerly stood on the property of the King Hooper Mansion, later known as the Collins House and "The Linden's".

In the late 1700's it was in the Collins House that General Gage, Royal Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, took up his residence. A group in opposition to the governor and his Tory supporters fired a cannonball through the front door in defiance of the existing state of affairs. This was before the outbreak of the revolution.

Later in 1804, when the Andover turnpike was built to connect the lucrative trade markets of the North Shore with the wooden and textile markets of Andover and Lawrence, the house was moved across the fields to its present location and served as a Stage Coach Way Station, ferrying passengers and small freight to and fro.

In 1926, two ladies, Marie Chaltain and Annie A. Rowell, opened a countryside restaurant called the Century Inn and began the business of serving excellent food to patrons. During World War II it was sold to Eli Hasham who changed the name to Century House Restaurant.

In April of 1957, Andrew and Irene Diskes bought it, and in 1977, son John Diskes and son-in-law Ted Jones took over restaurant operations. Today, Century House is the 10th Largest Independent Restaurant in Massachusetts.

In 1983, The Epicurean Shoppe was opened offering a delightful selection of our most delicious dishes oven-ready to take home.
