Item Description

This powerful and wrenching two-piece wood sculpture set, “Commiseration,” by Teddy Zacker, is rendered in walnut. The larger, double-fisted figure is eight (8) inches wide and seven (7) inches deep and high. The smaller figure is six (6) inches wide by four (4) inches deep and high.

Theadora (Teddy) Zacker specializes in the portrayal of tender human contacts. Her works include depictions of parent-child interactions, of people of various ethnic groups, and of people in torment, or, as in this piece, a person in proud self-display. Her sculptures have been widely exhibited, including in nine one-person shows and in many prestigious national and regional juried shows. Her sculptures are included in prominent corporate and priceless private collections both here and abroad.

She has earned widespread critical acclaim, including such awards as: the Anna Hyatt Huntington Bronze Medal for Sculpture, the Barbara Bisgeyer Most Innovative Sculpture Award, the Tallix Award, the Elizabeth Morse Genius Foundation Award, the Dermot Gale Award, the Adolph Grant Award, and numerous first prizes in sculpture awards.

Teddy's work has been described in a feature article in Spotlight Magazine, and was cited in Judith Peck's book, Sculpture as Experience, as well as in Manhattan Arts, Lively Arts, Arts Happenings, Star Ledger, Artspeak, Suburban Trends, Jewish Herald, Madison Eagle, Morristown Daily Record, Jewish Tribune, The Journal News, and The Rockland Review,.

She has created numerous commissioned works for such high-profile clients as The March of Dimes and The American Cancer Society.

"Creating a piece is a birthing, a part of myself," Teddy says. "A thought, image, or emotion begins to pervade my consciousness, and I use my skills as an artist to define and express this as I develop the piece."

In addition, Teddy teaches sculpture in her studio in Pomona, New York.
