ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ronnie Kirsch grew up on Long Island, New York and proclaimed herself an artist after falling in love with Crayola's box of 64 crayons with the built-in sharpener. She majored in Jewelry and Metalsmithing at the Rhode Island School of Design and graduated in 1974 with a BFA degree. During her first years as a designer, she drew collections for Tiffany, Cartier and other luxury brand manufacturers. After starting a family, Ronnie stopped designing full time and became a freelance designer, covering a wide range of New York manufacturers lines.
Twenty-five years of drawing thousands of earrings, rings, bracelets and necklaces seemed like quite enough and so she retired herself and decided to try new mediums to express her creativity. Ronnie took a class in Polymer Clay and was addicted immediately. Over the last ten years she has experimented with different techniques, using the box form as a way to showcase them. Most recently she applied her love of making mixed patterns with the clay to creating women's clutch bags.
ABOUT THE BAGS
Each of Ronnie's handmade bags is one-of-a-kind. She begins by mixing custom colors. She then fabricates sheets of polymer using a variety of techniques to create colorful layers of pattern and textures. These laminates are applied to the surface of a sturdy metal clutch. Finally the bag is cured in an oven to harden the polymer into a strong durable surface. All bags include a short and long chain-style strap.
