Item Description
Storytown is an interactive arts experience for children. The audience is an integral part of the fun, as each and every story is woven based on the suggestions of kids of all ages. At the start of the show, the audience picks a location for their story to take place and then become hands on in decorating the backdrop to start to bring our imaginations to life. As the tale unfolds, graphic artists construct props, paint backdrops, modify costumes, and otherwise create an environment as silly and unique as the story. A piano player supplies live music that scores the action, backs original lyrics created on the spot by the actors, and makes you want to get out of your seat and dance! Every bit of the show, from the costumes to the story to the art to the music, is fueled by the creative energy of the audience. Every show is completely unique. Storytown works to cultivate creativity, arts appreciation, introduction to story structure, and problem solving. Children get right into the action at every turn. Using the core improvisation fundamental of “yes, and”, every suggestion and idea is accepted, embraced and built upon. Anything can be an inspiration or jumping off point.
From superheroes to undersea adventures, princesses to dinosaurs, Storytown takes you on an interactive, fully improvised adventure! We use your suggestions and ideas to create a different story every week. Kids design the setting and help shape the story, and our actors, artists, and musicians bring it to life! When the possibilities are endless, no two stories are ever the same. We’ll see you in Storytown!
