Item Description

This beautiful 6"x6" Milo wood bowl was hand turned by Dr. Kent Nakamaru of Kailua-Kona.

Milo is popular in Hawaii for woodworking, commonly turned into bowls, because of the range of colors expressed from tan through yellow to red.  Milo was prized by early Hawaiians to make food bowls, poi calabashes, platters and dishes because the wood gave no unpleasant taste. Hawaiians considered Milo a sacred tree and its use was prohibited by common
