Item Description
Antique commemorative pitcher is dated 1907. On one side is pictured the landing of Roger Williams in Rhode Island in 1636, after being exiled by the Puritans in Massachusetts. On the other side is depicted the Betsey Williams Cottage.
The cottage sitill stands in Providence's Roger Williams Park today, a gift to the city from Betsey Williams, the great-great-great-granddaughter of Roger Williams. It had been the family farm and represented the last of the original land grant to Roger Williams in 1638 from the Narragansett tribe. The family farmhouse (built in 1773), known as the Betsey Williams Cottage, and the Williams family burial ground are still maintained within the park.
Details: Pitcher is marked Buffalo Pottery 1907. Colors are vibrant and there are no chips or cracks. Pitcher is 6 1/2" high x 7 1/2" handle to spout, and 5 1/2" diameter including mouth.
