Item Description

The board is a handcrafted GWS Wooden Surfboard and is a fish style board. It was shaped from wooden pallets found on the side of the road with a nose block made from an old front fence and the fins from an old table. I love the idea of turning something that is considered trash into a beautiful and functional piece of art. The board is heavier than most surfboards but has so much character. Knots, nail holes, splits, chips, beautiful grains and staining from being in the elements.

The art is inspired by Izzy and Surfers Healing. It depicts a surfer riding with a child and having the time of their lives. Watching the surfers doing this all I can see is this amazing positive energy radiating from the ocean through the surfers and the young child. What they do is so amazing and inspiring.

Gareth Smith has been crafting and designing wooden surfboards for the last 10 years. An avid surfer and artist his boards are made with the surfer in mind. He takes great pride in researching, designing and replicating the boards of yesteryear.  All of his boards are carefully crafted, sealed both inside and out, and built to surf and to last. Art is something that has always had pride of place on Gareth's boards and now uses his handcrafted wooden boards to display and compliment his functional artwork.

"As someone who has crafted a surfboard from wood, taken it out and caught a wave on it, I can tell you that the first time you paddle in and get to your feet, is truly a timeless feeling of joy and achievement."
