The narrated journey begins at historic Essex Station then meanders through the countryside aboard vintage rail cars pulled by an authentic steam locomotive. At Deep River Landing, board the Becky Thatcher riverboat for a cruise along the Connecticut River - bursting with wildlife, lush scenery, and historic sights, such as Gillette Castle and Goodspeed Opera House. Upon Becky's return to Deep River Landing, the steam train welcomes you for the return trip back to Essex.

The Valley Railroad Company, operating the Essex Steam Train & Riverboat, has been serving the lower Connecticut River Valley since 1971. Our company’s mission is to keep alive the rich mechanical, industrial, and transportation heritage of our state through the ongoing operation of vintage steam and diesel locomotives, passenger coaches, and the facilities and infrastructure to support these. We welcome visitors from throughout the state of Connecticut, the New England region, and from all over the world to ride our railroad, relax aboard our riverboat, and visit our unique facilities.

Vouture is only valid for Coach Seating on the Train & Riverboat Ride Monday-Friday and cannot be used towards any other ticketed event. Not valid for Saturday and Sundays, First Class, Open Car or Caboose seating, Dinner Train, Day Out w/ Thomas, Sunset Cruise, Swallow Cruise, Haddam Special, North Pole Express or Santa Special, the purchase of merchandise, or redeemed for cash.
Train & Riverboat operate Monday-Friday, late June thru late August, Fridays in September, and Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday in October.
