Item Description

This luxe backcountry equestrian camping experience for two for 2 days & 1 night provides you with all the advantages of backcountry camping, with the bonus that you don't have to carry your horse feed!

You will be led by experienced horseman and wilderness guide, Michael Murphy. Participants will learn to use a high line and receive other tips on how to backpack with horses. The ride is mostly downhill five miles to Mannings Flat and uphill on the way back.

You must provide your own horses. Horses must be fit. For questions before bidding, contact Michael at m_murphy@sonic.net.

This unique experience is valued at $600, but is truly priceless.

We will pack up our trusty 4 wheel drive Kawasaki Mule, and drive your horse feed to your backcountry site. We will return the next day to pack out whatever we can fit in our Mule. You ride in at your leisure, set up your camp, and enjoy the magnificent solitude of 5700 acres of unspoiled habitat for two days and one night.

Austin Creek State Recreation Area, adjacent to Armstrong Woods State Natural Reserve offers a rich diversity of native animals and plants, experience wildflower displays, grasslands, chaparral, conifer, oak woodland and riparian habitats.

This experience takes you into the depths of the backcountry to lovely Mannings Flat #1 or #2, a five mile ride from the trailhead. Each site includes a picnic table and a fire ring. Be prepared to pack out your own trash, and filter your water, available in several streams near the campsites.
