Item Description
Nina Simone, c. 2012 Lithograph 12 x 14 inches
Artist: Grace Rockafellow (b. 1938, Columbia, South Carolina, USA)
Artist’s note: My visual art philosophy is to never stop learning. I first learned about traditional copper plate etching in workshops while teaching high school art in Charleston, SC. After retiring from teaching I continued learning other ways of making prints, new and old, by taking studio art courses at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.
This print, Nina Simone, was done in a lithography class there. It is a continuation of my series of prints of extraordinary African-Americans. Since then my work has evolved into combining printmaking with collage, drawing, Xerox art and photography, resulting in more experimental monoprints.
