Item Description
Otto Neumann (1895-1975):
070025: Standing Man,monotype [glass plate print], c. 1953, 21x15 inches
This is a figure drawn with a continual line and typical of the artist's work in this period. A sheet of glass would be inked, and Neumann would then put the piece of paper on it and draw his design on the back. He would use pressure from his hand or a flat stick to push away ink and create areas of light and dark. Neumann would make variations of color and, sometimes, add detail but, each print is unique. The figure itself becomes grand and eternal.
Typical of Neumann's work, this print is not signed but bears the Estate Stamp on its back. The piece came directly to the artists family in the United States after his death in 1975.
