Take A Seat
Take A Seat is an assemblage collage created by Karla Leopold that reveals the multi-faceted talent, passions, and emotions of students attending Idyllwild Arts Academy. With the objective of capturing the hidden essence of teenage life and their journey towards building a better sense of self, the artist offers a glimpse of the day and life of teenagers through writings and words collected over time.
While the color pallet of choice is black and white, the character of the disposed writings unleashes a full spectrum of colors and emotions. The random writings intermingled with bold statements, described by Karla as expectations, draw onlookers into the piece.
Each piece, while uniquely different, fits within Karla’s design. The composition created by three deconstructed chairs beckons viewers to take a seat, become present, and engage with the next generation. The crown residing on top, which was created by a chair back turned upside down, is a reminder to honor and respect the wisdom of our youth.
