Item Description
This beautiful poncho has been made with loving hands by Highland Hall's Craft Teacher, Mona Lewis.
This poncho is actually a quilt composed of many squares of pure cashmere sewn together. It started out white, then, through the magic of the plant dye process, was "eco-printed" with several varieties of Eucalyptus leaves. Hand sewn details such as fringe and edge stitching are done with pure silk threads, dyed using the same process.
This is unique in all the world. Truly wearable art, this is a testament to the value and beauty of sustainable practices in textile creation. The colors are light fast, and will not wash out.
A note from Mona Lewis:
"Love and appreciation went into every stitch in the making of this garment, and it is a reflection of my experience here at Highland Hall. This is a place where art is revered, and where we are wrapped in the beauty, warmth and support of this community. Thank you for all you have given me- so many treasures- I can't even count them. From my heart!"
