Item Description
*Available to Trinity Church community members only*
Swallowquill Farm is a choir family's 4-season country retreat. The farmhouse sits on 55 acres on a dead-end dirt road in rural Sandisfield, Massachusetts. It is 20 minutes from Great Barrington and skiing at Butternut, as well as 20 minutes from Jacob's Pillow and 35 minutes from Tanglewood.
The home has 4 bedrooms (sleeps 8), 2 full bathrooms, and a new kitchen. There is a great room (pictured) as well as a more formal living room. There is laundry in the basement. There is a screened porch as well. There is internet but no television, and there is also the blessing of really poor cell phone service.
The property itself features a large, open meadow, hiking trails, and lots of wildlife. Bears, beaver, fox, bobcat, moose, and deer have all been spotted. The birdlife is fantastic as well--falcons, owls, hawks, and songbirds abound. The barn has mountain bikes, kayaks, and outdoor games. There is a swingset as well as a smoker/grill and the usual outdoor furniture. There is a "playhouse" in the meadow which makes a great studio, rainy day lunch spot, or kids' retreat.
Also nearby are many small lakes and wonderful hiking spots (including Trustees of Reservations properties and the Appalachian Trail). The Sandisfield Arts Center has a robust program in the warmer months including music, drama, and academic lectures. The incredible restaurant at The Old Inn on the Green is just 5 miles down Route 57.
NOTES:
*This is a very rural family home, not a high-end, fancy rental property in a chic resort area.
*Please no children under 6 due to the art.
* For purposes of the choir auction, the property is available for one week (Friday to Friday or Sunday to Sunday) in July or August, to be agreed upon by the donor and the winning bidder.
