Chair Without Charity - Sometimes we think that what we see is the whole picture, when in fact we are only seeing part of it. In today’s deeply polarized world, of which partisan politics is both a symptom and a cause, we view those with different political or religious beliefs with similar biases. From this perspective the reflection is perceived as reality. If we are willing to transcend this limitation, we will see that it is often more a projection of our own contracted worldview.
A chair is often seen as a symbol of power, in this piece the cut chair represents partisan political power; and its reflections politicized constructs-fake news, propaganda, conspiracy theories. From the perspective of each chair, the reflection appears to be the other chair, but in reality, they are looking at themselves.
Although the concept behind the piece is described, it is not limited by it; David Reid-Marr invites you to bring your unique awareness to it, and from that come up with your own interpretation.
