Item Description
4’ x 4’ - Oil on Canvas
I Killed the Mood, as described by Adrian, is a chair that was bought to be destroyed. Unaware of this, the chair was used by his peers and quickly became its own personality in the studio.
The artist smashed the chair with a sledge hammer and placed it in harsh lighting to paint it. The work alienates the once beloved object and reduces it to colors and shapes.
Underneath the connotations, aesthetics, and functionality, it was no more than wood.
ARIST BIO:
Adrian is a student at Idyllwild Arts Academy who believes that we have a tendency to categorize each other, whether it be by our shades, or successes, or nationalities. When delved in deeper, Adrian explains that many times we use the prime example of the body after death as an attempt to dissolve those ideas. A concept built on the foundation that under the paint we are all the same and that, aside from the aesthetics and the arbitrary statuses, all of us are here for a reason we see as unimportant.
