After 20 years of marketing Napa Valley and its wines, Karen Cakebread launched ZIATA Wines in 2008. “I had two goals: to create beautifully structured wines that reflect the vineyards they come from; and to be involved in every aspect of making the wine.”  She named the brand in honor of her mother, Mary Annunziata, and hired Anne Vawter, a protégée of Heidi Barrett, as winemaker.

Here for you, a case of her production and some of her favorite vintages.

The 2014 Pinot Noir is an exuberantly aromatic offering of red fruits, sweet vanilla and cigar tobacco, reflective of its cool-climate, high-elevation origins. Oak aging imparted subtle notes of anise, coriander and cinnamon spice, layered beautifully against a palate of strawberry and cherry.

The 2013 Mia Madre is a perfumed blend of varietals with an inviting mix of aromas of dark warm spices and molasses accented with ripe black plums. Aromas are balanced by fresh floral hints and toasted coriander.

The 2016 Sauvignon Blanc is a bright, expressive wine, fruit-driven and fresh, with delightful undertones of citrus and stone fruit.

The 2012 Cabernet Franc has the most amazing deep and gorgeous aromas of blue stone fruit, violet candies, chocolate, anise and cinnamon. This well-crafted, amazingly balanced wine then moves seamlessly into a long and enticing finish.

Karen’s commitment to crafting small-production wines of exceptional quality and distinction means that they sometimes sell out before all ZIATA lovers have a chance to purchase. Collection of California Sales Tax: Unless a valid resale permit is presented to seller prior to the sale, purchaser will be required to pay all state and local retail sales taxes applicable on the date of sale. Resale permits will be accepted only for businesses that are reasonably expected to buy and sell wine. Sales tax will be collected on the purchase price of each lot which contains tangible goods.

Shipping or Pick up of Wines: Shipping costs are the sole responsibility of the winner.

Non-Napa County winners must arrange for their wines to be shipped from The Packaging Company, beginning Friday, March 2, 2018. If you're the lucky winner, we'll call or email you with directions for making this happen.
