Item Description
Shield of Africa is a magnificent glass piece that is hand cut, assembled, fired in a kiln, and cold-worked by glass artisan John Henderson. Mr. Henderson uses glass as his medium because of its translucency and reflective qualities when exposed to light and he focuses on shape, form, texture, and color. The artist states: "My aesthetic philosophy is an exploration and extension of my cultural identity. I use many different materials mixed with glass, yet glass is the dominant focus in all its various applications and techniques. In creating this visual transparency; abstracting images, symbols and text, my work invokes a spiritual awareness and connection to the past. I am reclaiming and reconciling the past, with the present, in order to move forward."
This extraordinary piece stands 18" H X 13" W and comes with a metal stand for easy and appropriate display.
