One of the many pleasures of living in today’s modern viticultural times is that we have many great vintages of wine to choose from.
This was not always the case just 50-60 years ago. Wine was wonderful and always a pleasure to drink, but not every year was a stellar vintage.
If you were to ask a serious collector which were the greatest Barolo vintages between 1947 and 1978, he might find it hard to choose just one. But one thing would be certain—he’d have some leading candidates: 1958, 1964, and 1971.
Not only were these arguably the three greatest Barolo vintages of the epoch, each year has stood the test of time. The finest examples of 1958, 1964, and 1971 are to this day profound expressions of classic Barolo, with 1961, 1974 and 1978 running a very, very close second.
These 6 bottles represent a 20-year span of the greatest vintages of Barolo, from 1958 through 1978. All in 750 ml. Wines have been cellared in optimal conditions.
This is a Collection, not to be missed!
