11" by 7 1/4" linocut by Ralph Cheese called Barbadoes Mother and Child
Ralph Cheese was Creole born and raised in New Orleans in 1900. He first visited California in 1921 and settled permanently in San Francisco in 1928. During his time in San Francisco, he worked on projects with the San Francisco Opera and San Francisco Symphony. He was an WPA Artist and Puppeteer, taught at the San Francisco State, and produced The Wonderful World of Brother Buzz for the Lantham foundation. He has a mural in Coit Tower entitlted Children at Play, which is located at the top of the stairway next to one by Lucian Labaudt.
This print was hand printed by Bruce Chesse from an original linocut had carved in 1982 by his father in Ashland, Oregon.
