Enjoy drinks, scrumptious appetizers, dinner, and dessert; mingle with friends; and chat with the author. After dinner, Kovac will read from "Spinning," engage in a Q+A, and sign books.
Each ticket includes a copy of "Spinning," which will be distributed in advance of the dinner. It’s going to be a fantastic evening, so buy your tickets early and spread the word!
Book Description:
When Janine Kovac gives birth to micro preemie twins nearly four months before they are due, she channels the grace and strength that carried her through her ballet career. But old habits bring up bitter memories--the futile quest for perfection and a career-ending injury. In the sterile, fluorescent world of the NICU, it turns out that ballet breeds hope as the twins make a miraculous recovery, and brings possible resolution for the dancer whose career ended so abruptly.
NYTimes best-selling author, Ellen Sussman, describes Janine’s book as a story that will “grab you by the heart and won’t let go until the very end.”
Author Bio:
At the close of the 20th century, Janine Kovac was a ballerina. She danced with the National Ballet of Iceland, Smuin Ballet in San Francisco, and Italian dance companies Aterballetto and Fabula Saltica. Following a severe injury, she traded pointe shoes for programming, while completing her B.A. in cognitive science at U.C. Berkeley. She received the Glushko Prize for distinguished research in cognitive science for her thesis, “A Cognitive Linguistic Analysis of Parenting,” which became the foundation for her first book, Brain Changer: A Mother’s Guide to Cognitive Science. At age 40, and already a mother of a toddler, Janine gave birth late in 2009 to identical twins, born at 25 weeks’ gestation, and spent the next eternity in the neonatal intensive care unit.
