Experience a unique vacation with this prize, which takes you and a guest to the magical city of Varna in Bulgaria in June for the Varna Internatinoal Theater Festival! 

For five nights, you'll stay at the sleek mOdus hotel in one of their mid-sized suites, located right in the heart of Varna City, and will get the VIP treatment at the festival with tickets and invitations to special events, as well as a VIP dinner.

The 26th Annual Varna International Theatre Festival will take place June 1 - 11, 2018.  Highlights of this year's programming include:

• Bulgarian theatre artist showcase: Martin McDonagh's HANGMEN (Theatre Sofia); FLAPSE (Derida Dance Company); Mike Bartlett's COCK (Youth Theatre); Milen Ruskov's CHAMKORIA (Theatre 199); DELHI DANCE (Ivan Vazov National Theatre, with Theatre National de Toulousse)
• International theatre: LOSER(S) (Losers Cirque, Czech Republic); CIRCEO (Le Supplici, Italy), HAKANAI (Compangie Adrien M & Clair B., France)
• Installations and immersive pieces: PURE (Christian Bakalov); HAPPY BECKETT (Mairy Rosen, based on Samuel Beckett's Happy Days)
• Theatre screenings: THREE SISTERS (Red Torch Theatre, dir. Timofey Khuliabin); HEDDA GABLER (National Theatre, dir. by Ivo Van Hove, starring Ruth Wilson)

All international and showcase productions are presented with English subtitles.  Full schedule to be announced April 15.

About the Varna International Theatre Festival

Each summer, major theater companies and artists from around the world gather in Varna, Bulgaria, for two weeks chockful of performances, concerts, exhiitions, films, panels, and more.  The festival is truly a global collaboration, and each of its events invites artists and audiences to participate in intercultural dialogue and exchange.  The festival also injects a wonderful energy into the city of Varna beyond the official festival program, heightening the already vibrant array of cafes and restaurants, through each day of events and sometimes even into the small hours of the night.

PRIZE INCLUDES: 5 nights' accommodation for two guests in a mid-sized suite at the mOdus hotel in Varna; tickets to International Theatre Festival programming; invitations to special festival events and a VIP dinner; round-trip economy class airfare for two from the United States to Bulgaria.

RESTRICTIONS: This trip coincides with the Varna International Theatre Festival, and must be taken while the festival is on, between June 1-11, 2018.  Travel dates will be determined between festival scheduling and the winning bidder's preferred schedule, and are subject to availability of flights and accommodations.

Airfare is included in this prize, for two round-trip economy class flights to Bulgaria from the United States. This prize covers flights valued up to $2,400, or $1,200 per person.  These numbers are based on averages for routes between New York City and Bulgaria, calculated at the time of the auction opening.

PLEASE NOTE: In order prevent credit card fraud, if the winning bid exceeds $1,000, The Drama League of New York will require a signed credit card authorization form, a photocopy of both sides of the purchasing credit card (all but the last 4 digits may be blacked out), and proof of identity (state-issued photo ID – private ID numbers may be blacked out), OR payment via check or money order before arranging the prize package for the winner.
