Art
Item Description
Greg Hart has been living in Charleston for 14 years. A native to the state, he graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2001 with a degree in Media Arts - he focused on Film and Television, with an internship at 20th Century Feature Casting in Los Angeles. Hart worked at CNN for a year, leaving after 9/11 to pursue illustration, with postgraduate stints at the Atlanta College of Art (now SCAD Atlanta) and the Illustration Academy. He then freelanced as an illustrator with work appearing in The Washington Post, Utne Reader, and USA Today. In 2009, he travelled to Paris and returned hell-bent on painting, abandoning commercial art for more personal work. He found a voice in photography-based portraiture, most of it historical in nature. His fine art work has been featured in Charleston Magazine, The Jealous Curator, Art Hound, Azalea, Art Mag, Studio Visit, and Four Charlotte. He has exhibited work with The George Gallery, Gris Galerie, Eyedrum, The Southern, Redux, and City Gallery. Greg's work is informed by the photography of Mathew Brady, graphic sensibility of Andy Warhol, and expressive color of Alice Neel.
