We’re on a mission to help you raise Curious, Courageous and Kind kids. Why? Well, not only does the world intuitively need more curious, courageous and kind people, but research shows these character traits are vital to our health and highly predictive of high achievement and life satisfaction…i.e. Happy Grown Ups.
How do Curiosity, Courage and Kindness work to make us better humans? When our curiosity is peaked, our brain releases a chemical called dopamine that makes us feel good. Our hippocampus is also activated, which helps us form memories. That means curious kids remember more and want to learn more. At its core, courage is the willingness to act in the face of fear, uncertainty, and doubt. It is a cognitive ability that can be trained. Our campers practice staying emotionally present and mindful, especially during challenging situations. That way their actions reflect positive character traits rather than negative instincts, and they build grit at the same time. Speaking of positive character traits, our favorite is kindness. Did you know that like most anti-depressants, acts of kindness stimulate serotonin and endorphins and reduce cortisol levels? That means while you’re doing good for others or the environment, you’re less stressed and happier. You’re also connecting deeply with others. No wonder you’re more fulfilled!
To achieve our mission and ground our programs in science, we partner with Social Emotional Learning (SEL) & STEAM professionals from top institutions. Our Advisory Board includes Education Directors from UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, Maker Ed, the California Academy of Sciences and the Children’s Creativity Museum. Any EDMO Science, Tech and Nature program you choose incorporates the most research-informed techniques of building our four foundational Mindsets and six key SEL skills.
