Born and raised in India, Chef Bala first took interest in cooking at a young age, and decided to nurture his affection in culinary school. After studying at the Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology in Madras, India, Bala worked for several years as a chef in India and Bahrain before moving to Bermuda. There, he worked for eighteen years in three different restaurants, each of which varied greatly in culture and cuisine.
As of January 2017 he was the President of the Indian Chefs and Culinary Association. He is also a world-accredited judge for cooking competitions, certified by the World Association of Chefs Society.
