"As a painter William Stanisich's intense attraction to this difficult-to-civilize place was neither to its cinematic vistas of water and sky nor the picturesque rocky coastline. Instead, he was drawn to the extreme contrasts of brilliant light and twisted, dark trunks; to hafts of illumination falling through dark branches into small, protected glades. In painting after painting, describing indentiable landmarks has been less immportant than the rhythm of black against white, punctuated with intense, almost halluncinogenic shades of green. In many, the leaning bodies of backlit trunks divide and define the painting's rectangle, the line of their branches suggesting a kind of brooding text as the light spilling through them becomes a silvery, dappled abstraction. In therse tender glades, time is suspended, in an intense, prismatic joy." Maria Porges 2017
