Item Description

The Journal of Henry D. Thoreau. Edited by Bradford Torrey and Francis H. Allen. With a Foreword by Walter Harding. In Fourteen Volumes, Bound as Two. Hardcover.

Volume 1 contains: Volumes I-VII (1837 - October, 1855) including preceding notes, contents, and introduction.

Volume 2 contains: Volumes VIII - XIV (November, 1855 - 1861) including Map of Concord and Index.

This precious but bulky two-volume edition of Thoreau's journal is in pretty good condition considering sun damage to the Vol. 1 dust cover and some edge wear and rips to dust jackets only. Actual books themselves are beautiful and like new with sea foam green boards and gilt on spint.

There is a book plate on the front cover on each volume but no markings otherwise.

Dover Publications large format books feature reprint of 1906, 14-Volume Edition printed in quarto format (4 pages of the original on 1 page of the reprinted edition). Each book measures 8 1/2" X 12 1/2". 1804 pp. total.

Thoreauvian's know that these "dover editions" are hard to come by!
