Enhancing Our Performing and Music Arts Spaces

Shakespeare said, “The object of art is to give life shape.”

At EB, we strive to emphasize a whole-child approach to learning. While we want our students to be critical thinkers, strong mathematicians, and curious science enthusiasts, we also want them to express their creativity and build their confidence, and there’s no better way to do that than through the arts. Studies have shown that exposure to art education promotes self-directed learning, increases reading and writing proficiency, and has an impressive impact on students’ cognitive, social, and emotional development. Skills like patience, teamwork, focus, perseverance, and decision-making flourish through learning a musical instrument, performing a play, or painting a self portrait.

We want to give our students all those benefits and more: funds raised through our Fund for the Future will be allocated to improving this crucial part of our children’s education: music and performing arts. Learning the basics of music and singing, discovering an instrument, and being part of a performance are all key components of our music and drama programs that benefit our students at every level, both during class as well as outside of school.

Your donations tonight will be used over the next two years to improve our performing arts spaces on both campuses. The Multi-Purpose Room at the Lower School will be outfitted with professional stage lighting, a new sound system, new video projector, as well as a new stage and backdrop curtains to enhance the atmosphere. At the Middle School, we will equip a new performing arts classroom with a brand new compliment of instruments, a projector, and two miniature digital recording studios that will allow students to express their creativity while building composition, editing, and mixing skills.

Our kids won’t be the only beneficiaries of these improvements: our teachers and after school staff have expressed their enthusiasm for this project. The presentation of the class shows will be much improved, and the possibilities for our after school classes are tremendous. We could even have rehearsal space for EB school bands! Picture your child’s excitement as the day of their performance approaches. Now you can share in that excitement as you enhance the quality of their experience in a fundamental way. All our children will have the foundation to “give life shape” through art!

A sincere thank you for your support!

- Richard Lyon, Middle School Head

“The improved Performing Arts rooms are going to provide a useful space for after school programming such as school band, digital music recording and composition, and individual and group music lessons, as well as Theatre Arts classes.”

“EB shows are a unique opportunity to hear and to see our students shine and share their talent with the community. Our efforts to put on memorable shows can be improved with better equipment and a centralized lighting and sound board.”
