The host farmers are Suzie & John Moon, Big Sur Meat Company, Big Sur, CA and the guest chef is Jim Denevan, Santa Cruz, CA
Gorgeous green hills, splashes of wildflowers, steep canyons cut by swift running streams, groves of towering redwoods. All this and a stunning vantage to view the sparkling Pacific Ocean. Big Sur is something else; a world apart. The folks at Outstanding in the Field are extraordinarily grateful to be invited back for their second visit. Hosts John and Suzie Moon will welcome us to the ranch and give us the down and dirty. In the field kitchen is Outstanding in the Field founder and chef Jim Denevan.
To those not familiar with Outstanding in the Field, a bit of background:
Founded in 1999 by artist and chef Jim Denevan, Outstanding in the Field was intended as a radical intervention to stale dining conventions. Rather than source ingredients and bring them to the restaurant, we would create a restaurant at the source. Guests would dine at one long table set between earth and sky, where the farmer’s story would be recognized and celebrated. The world's first pop-up restaurant - in a farm field.
Inspired by this original idea, the Outstanding in the Field culinary caravan has visited all 50 states in the U.S. and 15 countries around the globe. Hundreds of the world's most honored chefs have cooked in our field kitchen.
OITF's roving restaurant without walls may be located wherever good food comes from. There are no boundaries!
