Item Description
This one's for the political junkies! Think you know SF City Hall? You might know it...but not like Drew parent Steve Kawa, who spent 25 years in City Hall as a top aide to three mayors, including the roles of Deputy Chief of Staff for Mayor Willie Brown and Chief of Staff for Mayors Gavin Newsom and Ed Lee.
With this private tour of City Hall for 5 lucky people, Steve will show you around, along with San Francisco native Ellen Schumer, City Hall's official historian and head docent who has been giving tours for 20 years. As a special treat, you'll get to visit the dome, which stands at a soaring 307 feet and 6 inches (5th highest rotunda in the world), and is not normally open to the public. When you make it to the top, you get nearly 360 degree views of the city and bragging rights that not many people can one-up!
You'll definitely learn the history of the building and the people who have worked there, and if you ask nicely, knowing Steve, you might even get to hear a few stories from "behind the curtain!"
Follow up the tour with lunch in the private mezzanine at Corridor, a City Hall regulars' haunt. The menu has something for everyone with bites ranging from falafel croquettes and French onion soup to smoked trout and farro salad and roasted salmon. There might be more political gossip, if you're really nice.
Item Special Note
This tour includes the dome, visitors must be able to climb steep stairs and be comfortable with heights. 2018 weekday date to be mutually agreed upon.
