Item Description
This quilt is called “Women’s Voices – a Civil War Quilt” and measures 52x52. Each block has a little history with it. Referring to the block on the bottom row in the center – This block is called Patriotic Flags - every time a territory acquired statehood, ladies made flag quilts commemorating the occasion. Then referring to the middle row, block on the far right - this block was labeled Lincoln’s Platform during his presidential campaign. It was also named after Sherman’s march through the South during the Civil War. And referring to the middle row, the block in the middle – Lincoln used this slogan to symbolize his campaign. Referring to the block on the top row, far left – this block was called Crowned Cross – quilts frequently echoed the religions of the Civil War Era. This popular block was often used by church groups in quilts sent to the battlefield. The pictures are the front of the quilt, then a close-up of one block, then the back of the quilt.
