Item Description
Quilt-making traditions around the world tell the stories of community, where craft traditions and community bonds can be (literally) woven into a visual tapestry, both beautiful and meaningful. This year, the kindergarten constellation quilt ties into this year’s theme of “Wish Upon a Star.” We have produced a quilt that holds at its center a colorful constellation of stars embroidered with the girls’ hopes and dreams for the future. The students’ and teachers’ names are embroidered in red, blue, and yellow thread, weaving their color groups into the vibrant edge panels, and establishing them as the kindergarten community that holds these stars, these hopes and dreams at its center. The quilt is backed with a large multicolored single star set into the dark navy night sky fabric, with Burke’s Class of 2020 embroidered at the base.
This quilt, these myriad hopes and dreams, preserve these aspirations for a future that the Class of 2026 will share, even as they chart their own journeys, and create their own individual constellations in the years ahead.
