Voucher valid for TWO seats to your choice of one of the following performances from the 2017-2018 BNY Mellon Grand Classics Season. Option 2 features our very own Pittsburgh Youth Chorus along with the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performing the Pittsburgh premiere of Berlioz's Te Deum!
Option 1. Beethoven Concerto Cycle No. 4 on June 8 at 8PM OR June 10 at 2:30PM
The true hallmark of a virtuoso ensemble is the ability to conjure the power and majesty of some of the romantic era's most powerful statements, while at the same time revealing the elegance, wit, and subtlety of Beethoven and Mozart. Mozart's delightful Symphony No. 33 opens the program. From its sprightly first movement to the high-spirited moto perpetuo finale, this music radiates charm and effervescence. The season-long Beethoven Piano Concerto cycle continues with Igor Levit's highly anticipated Pittsburgh debut in Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4, a work modeled on Mozart's refined classicism, but already indicative of Beethoven's romantic spirit. The final commission in honor of Manfred Honeck's 10th Anniversary season, Isfahan, by Pittsburgh composer, Reza Vali, receives its world premiere while two bold romantic showpieces close the program. From Liszt's most famous tone poem, Les Preludes, to Wagner's joyful Prelude to Die Meistersinger, hear what is celebrated around the world as one of the finest artistic partnerships today, Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Option 2. Ax Plays Beethoven's "Emperor" on June 15th & 16th at 8PM OR 17th at 2:30PM
The Pittsburgh Symphony closes its Mellon Grand Classics season with two monumental masterpieces. Pittsburgh favorite Emanuel “Manny” Ax returns with Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto. The quintessential concerto for the piano, the “Emperor” has it all – a striking opening, hymn-like adagio, and a glorious finish.
For the season finale, the Pittsburgh Symphony joins forces with the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, tenor Paul Appleby, the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus and the grandeur of the organ for Berlioz’s Te Deum, a sensory extravaganza from the massive opening chords to the bombastic finale. Never before performed in Pittsburgh, Te Deum is not to be missed!
