Item Description

This is a unique offering in the Doberman & literary world - you are bidding on a complete set of the famous AWOL novels and additionally they are all 1st editions from the 1940’s & 50’s!  A “must have” for the complete Doberman library.

AWOL K-9 Commando: The 1st in the series. There is a saying that the dog is the only animal which ever sees its God.  Certainly, when an abused Doberman Pinscher, AWOL from the German army's war dog corps, is rescued by a young American correspondent, the dog recognizes his God and claims George Stanhope as his only master.  Taken home to the USA circumstances later lead to AWOL'S enlistment in the K-9 Corps of the U.S. Army and he travels to England & France for adventures during WWII.

AWOL Musters Out:  AWOL is honorably discharged from the service and with his master George Stanhope travels to the mysterious continent of Australia.  They share adventures in the outback.

AWOL The Rajah: Stanhope’s travels take them to India where he and AWOL face a man-killing tiger, getting lost in the jungle and together they survive many adversities.

AWOL The Courier:  Is the story of the K-9 Corps in Korea. AWOL is reunited w/ Colonel Harper whom he had known in World War II.  AWOL returns to battle and does things where human beings fail.

All four books are 1st editions in good clean condition, with strong hinges and tight spines. 
K-9 Commando: 1944. Slight edge wear. No dustjacket.  
Musters Out: 1946. Slight edge wear. Dustjacket in fair condition with "Paperfold" protector.
The Rajah: 1948. Edge wear on spine, Sunbleached spine. No dustjacket.  
The Courier: 1951. Slight edge wear. Dustjacket in fair condition.

The author Bertrand Shurtleff, 1897-1967, was a former football star from Brown University who was also a professional wrestler. He acted in a few movies, and toward the end of his life lectured at civic clubs and schools.
