Item Description

Lithograph Portrait: Tshusick

Bio of Tschusick

Tshusick, an Ojibway woman, has an interesting story.  Having walked alone from Detroit to Washington, she was found starving, in rags, and nearly frozen. Thomas McKenney took her in, fed her, and gave her fabric, feathers, and beads to make something to wear.  She toiled late into the night and created one of the finest garments imaginable, which she is wearing in her portrait.
