Born in 1978 in Denmark. Hanne Støvring belongs to the young generation of painters of Bornholm. The small coastal town Gudhjem on the faraway island Bornholm in the Baltic Sea has been the home of her studio. Here on the edge of Denmark, under clear sky and with the open sea to the great world, through her intense senses she experiences the scenery of the summer night where magic rule in the bluish white vibrating light, the changing weather, the intimate calmness and the nuances of colors over sea and sky. The titles of the paintings suggest that she focuses on human life and solidarity and nature moods. Hanne has had exhibitions in Los Angeles, New Jersey and New York – and last Fall she was showing her pieces at Museum of Danish America in Iowa. In Denmark she’s exhibiting at Galleri Himmerland, Jutland and Galleri Brøddegade 22, Bornholm. Hanne’s palette is light, airy and in high key colors just like the sky in Bornholm. Superimposed on the canvas are light drawings - some from New York City, some very clearly identifiable, others she invites the viewer to imagine however they wish to interpret the sketchy drawings. The overall impression is a very pleasant, professional and appeal to a large audience. Museum Curator Tova Brandt from Museum of Danish America describes it as ‘Washes of blues and greens swim across the canvas. Human forms are anonymous in their features, yet universal in their emotions. In one painting, sunshine and misty clouds seem to co-exist. In another, bold reds and yellows pulse with the energy of urban life.
