Item Description
"Just Let the Kids Play: How to Stop Other Adults from Ruining Your Child's Fun and Success in Youth Sports", is a recent book co-authored by Bob Bigelow and renowned sports journalists, Tom Moroney and Linda Hall.
This is the first book to identify the current systems used in youth sports programs as the root cause of many problems. "Just Let the Kids Play" goes well beyond how to coach kids better or typical calls for better training, and improved sportsmanship.
In his book, Bob offers practical methods for reaping the benefits of youth sports by creating new approaches to play that better serve the physical and emotional needs of young athletes, rather than adults' needs to compete through our children.
He argues that we need to seriously reconsider many of the fundamental aspects of current national youth sports such as elite travel teams (especially for younger kids), which can create overuse injuries and burn-out, and discriminate against late-blooming young athletes.
Bob Bigelow was a presenter in the Discovery Museum's 2017 Speaker Series.
