Item Description

This is one of seven LAKHI commemorative tea light holders that were made for the auction. Each tea light holder incorporates the same 'LAKHI" elephant but is unique in the overall decoration. On the bottom is another elephant as well as LAKHI's name and the date of her passing. Each holder comes with 5 tea lights: cucumber melon, trade winds, apple cinnamon, vanilla & unscented.

It measues about 4 inches across. It is made of Canadian curly maple and turned on the lathe by John. Then Sylvie custom mixed aubergiine purple aniline dye to stain them. The elephant designs are painted with a combination of metallic silver and black paint. For some of them, the elephants are a lighter colour saturation to intentionally contrast them with the background dark purple. It is finished to a high gloss with multiple thin coats of airbrushed shellac.

So burn a light to honour Lakhi and for all the other elephants in India who have been robbed of their freedom and dignity so that they might also have a chance of a better life at WSOS.

John Baker started making pens and other items on the lathe in 2017 to help him recover from a bone marrow transplant. Doing so in support of WSOS provides him with inspiration, motivation on the tough days and, most importantly, a sense of accomplishment, of 'giving back' in some small way. This is the second auction he's contributing to and he hopes to continue for many years.
