Message from the Artist: "I got drawn into animal activism because I am an animal lover. Being also an artist, I went searching for an elephant photo to paint. That’s when I learned the real truth about circuses and temples. It was really like "fire shut up in my bones. For this painting I wanted to pay respect to our Beloved Mohan who passed from us this last year.
Many thanks to all the founders, sponsors, staff, supporters and everyone who poured out all to rescue Mohan and give him his many, many happy moments after his rescue."
I learned of Wildlife SOS during a campaign to save an elephant named Raju. Many more rescues followed thereafter. When I saw the pictures of Suraj and learned that he had even lost an ear, I decided to get involved in helping him to freedom. He still makes me cry, but now it’s because I can see in his face how much happier he is.
I hope by painting portraits of some of the animals after rescue, it will help the animals who desperately need a voice, and hopefully give someone enjoyment to see an elephant they helped to raise funds for."
In addition to donating the original “Suraj” painting to this auction, Donna Dixon is also selling prints to raise funds for Wildlife SOS.
