Let the staff and wines at Far Niente Winery transport you to another time and place with a tour and tasting for 4 people. Set in the heart of Napa Valley, Far Niente's historic, tri-level winery is built into the surrounding hillsides. Of special note on your tour will be the 40,000 sq. ft. wine aging caves, which were the first modern wine caves built in North America when excavation began in 1980. Tastings follow each tour and feature the current releases of Far Niente estate wines; a seasonal cheese pairing is also featured. Each tasting ends with a taste of Dolce, the sumptuous, late harvest wine produced by Far Niente's sister winery of the same name.
A magnum (1.5L) of 2010 Far Niente Chardonnay lets you enhance your Far Niente experience at home. Aromas of Meyer lemon, toasted nuts and fig are supported by the underlying sweetness of honeysuckle. The entry is honeyed with ripe citrus, light melon and well-integrated nuttiness and a touch of mineral. A rich, full midpalate with balanced acidity draws out into a long finish. Far Niente Chardonnay is a blend of superlative Napa Valley vineyards, many of which are located in a little-known area called Coombsville, a cool growing region nestled in the rolling countryside and protected by the hills east of the city of Napa.
