Item Description
Laurie Moloney is a Certified Academic Language Therapist registered nationally with the Academic Language Therapy Association. She is also president of the DC Capital Area Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (DCIDA).
Ms. Moloney began her training in 1989 - first at the Tri-Services/National Institute of Dyslexia and then at the Atlantic Seaboard Dyslexia Education Center (ASDEC) Ms. Moloney also studied the Sounds in Syllables (SIS) Multisensory Language Therapy approach.
Ms. Moloney maintains a private practice, serving students of all ages -- from the mildly involved to the severely learning disabled. Her areas of expertise include teaching students to read, handwrite, and spell fluently; take notes from textbooks, literature, and lecture; enlarge their vocabulary exponentially through the study of Latin and Greek morphemes; read and think critically; write well; manage their time and school materials effectively; remember what they learn through novel memory strategies; and self-advocate. She is motivated by the belief that literacy is a fundamental civil right unfairly denied to millions of Americans for a myriad of intolerable reasons.
Are you concerned about your child's reading, spelling, and writing abilities relative to his or her same-aged peers? Laurie will administer a set of informal assessments of your child's performance and offer insights and next-step recommendation.
