Research Project: Nature's impact on stress and emotional brain health - Emily Scott, University of Utah
The research is fascinating and studies find that people report feeling happier and more satisfied with life after they have spent a few days in nature, away from technology and the urban environment. Even short walks in nature parks can boost one’s mood.
Research is also discovering additional benefits to spending time in nature. Just a few of the benefits have found that people perform better on cognitive tasks, including creative problem solving, have greater attention spans, and lower blood pressure and heart rates. There is more focus and satisfaction in one's life. This only begins to touch the surface of how far reaching the benefits can be!
As an avid outdoor enthusiast, I have come to appreciate the time spent in nature, not only in a personal way but also the impact it has had on my artwork. My inspiration is definitely influenced by my environment and the emotional impact comes through in my artwork.
This piece, ‘A Little Peace Of Mind’, Has brought back the wonderful feeling of standing in a field of wildflowers in the spring. The wind is gently blowing, everything is fresh and alive. Butterflies flutter around and occasionally land on the flower petals. It is peaceful and rejuvenating at the same time. This break from technology and our urban environment restores peace and tranquillity to the mind. I hope you find the same peace of mind that I did while painting it. We all need to spend more time exploring nature as we clearly were meant to.
