Item Description

This is one of 4 tea light holders that were made for the auction to celebrate the WSOS Elephant Family.  They are an earthy green meant to represent the hope that one day ALL elephants will live in their natural green environment and the suffering and exploitation of captive elephants will be but a memory. Until then, the green represents the Field of Dreams at WSOS which will give long-suffering elephants their freedom, dignitiy and the healing companionship of their own kind. The top has been decorated with herds of elephants to symbolize this hope. The bottom  has one larger elephant and WSOS inscribed to represent this amazing organization and all that they have done and continue to do for elephants. On the side of each, I have inscribed the names of ALL the elephants currently at WSOS but also including CHAMPA who was the inspiration for the WSOS elephant sanctuary.

So burn a light to honour all the WSOS Elephant Family including elephants who have passed and all the amazing humans who contribute to make this endeavour possible, including WSOS supporters.  And let's never forget all the other suffering elephants in India who have been robbed of their freedom and desperately need the opportunity of a better life at WSOS.

Each tea light holder incorporates variations in design but using the same elephant motif. They measure approximately 3.5 inches across and were handcrafted by John and turned on the lathe from Canadian curly maple. They were dyed with custom mixed analine dye, decorated with oil-based paints and then finished with multiple thin coats of aribrushed shellac. Each holder comes with 5 tea lights: cucumber melon, trade winds, apple cinnamon, vanilla & unscented.

John Baker started making pens and other items on the lathe in 2017 to help him recover from a bone marrow transplant. Doing so in support of WSOS provides him with inspiration, motivation on the tough days and, most importantly, a sense of accomplishment, of 'giving back' in some small way. This is the second auction he's contributing to and he hopes to continue for many years.
