Research Project: Brain Imaging as a Method for Recovery, Dr. Jeffrey Dunn, University of Calgary
The multi-media painting was inspired by the stunning MRI images used to illustrate the cross-section of the animal brain, along with the imaging techniques used to understand the impact of oxygen and inflammation on the myelin sheath and brain microvasculature.
In conversations with Dr. Dunn it was surprising to learn that despite many advancements, a mystery that continues to shroud Multiple Sclerosis: its cause and successful treatment. The use of colours, different mediums and multiple layers was used to demonstrate the complexity of the issue while remaining focused on the importance of staying optimistic for everyone fighting this disease that few understand.
