Item Description

"Quilling"

The artwork created by Ms. Levs TK class utilizes quilling, an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create a decorative design.  Quilling was used during the Renaissance by French and Italian nuns and monks to decorate book covers and religious items.  Most commonly, strips of paper were trimmed from the gilded edges of books.  Quilling often imitated the original ironwork of the day.

The class spent two days creating the quills, or rolls of paper.  After the quills were prepared we worked in groups of four to place the quills on the canvas.  Students selected the quill and its location on the canvas, so the final result is a true collaboration of the class.  We hope you enjoy it!

Thank you to Beth Rodin for spearheading this project!
